Boeing Delivers First Dreamliner: Away We Go!

After the milestone first delivery of its eagerly anticipated 787 Dreamliner today, Boeing (BA) should be able to move past the years of delays to the program and focus on shipping a total of 821 planes to 56 customers. The company is hoping to produce 10 planes a month, whittling down its massive inventory. Many of the 787′s sit half-finished in and around the company’s plants after years of delays to the program..

Investors appeared confident in the program’s success this morning, and Boeing rose 1.3% in early trading as the first jet was delivered to Japan’s All Nippon Airways in Everett, Washington.

Boeing is also trying to supply Japan with new fighter jets as the country attempts to contend with military advances by Russia and China. The contract to supply the jets could be worth $4 billion, according to Bloomberg.
