Apple: Piper Puts 1st Weekend iPad 3G Sales At 300,000 Units

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates that Apple (AAPL) by the end of the day will have sold 300,000 iPad 3G units over the launch weekend.

Munster says his estimate follows checks with 50 Apple stores, and attending the launch Friday at stores in New York and Minneapolis, and includes 52 days of pre-orders. Munster said 49 of the 50 stores called Sunday were already out of stock of 3G models.

Munster thinks the company has now sold over 1 million iPads in total, and says his original estimate of 1.3 million units for the June quarter could be conservative.

The Apple online storeshows orders for both the 3G and WiFi-only versions of the iPad shipping in 5-7 business days, with free shipping.
