Stocks Post Broad Gains; Financials Fall

NEW YORK—U.S. stocks gained as investors reacted favorably to economic data in the U.S. and overseas, but weakness in financial stocks limited the advance.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 60.01 points, or 0.48%, to 12482.07, pushing the measure to another five-month closing high. The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index gained 4.58 points, or 0.36%, to 1293.67, the eighth rise in 10 sessions. The Nasdaq Composite added 17.41 points, or 0.64%, to 2728.08, the seventh gain in eight sessions.
