Coinstar (CSTR) this afternoon announced distribution agreements with both 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios for its Redbox video kiosk rental business. In both cases, the company agreed to a 28-day window after the debut of new releases before they will� be available to Redbox. The deals cover both DVD and Blu-Ray disks. The Fox deal calls for the company to destroy film copies once they reach the end of their useful life; the Universal deal calls for Redbox to “remove” content from kiosks after their useful rental life and to “discontinue access via rental or sale.”
CSTR in late trading is up 77 cents, or 2.2%, to $36.25.
